My Approaches

Modern Evidence Based Psychotherapy Toolkit

I draw on a range of evidence-informed therapeutic approaches and choose what is likely to be most useful for you, your circumstances and what you want to change.

Sometimes that means understanding why something is happening. Sometimes it means learning practical ways to manage difficult feelings or situations. Often it is about helping you use the strengths and resources you already have more effectively.

We can work at a pace that feels manageable, and you do not need to arrive knowing exactly what to talk about or how therapy is supposed to work.

I am trained in several therapeutic approaches rather than working rigidly from one model. These can be used individually or combined depending on what is most useful for you. We can work out together what makes sessions most useful for you.

Human Givens Psychotherapy

This is the main framework underpinning much of my work. It takes a practical, whole-person approach, looking at emotional needs, existing strengths and resources, and the patterns that may be keeping a difficulty going.

Clinical Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy can be used alongside talking therapy when it is useful. It involves focused attention and relaxation and can provide a helpful way to rehearse new responses, use imagery and work with emotional and behavioural patterns.

Solution Focused Brief Therapy

Solution-focused work places more attention on where you want to get to and what may help you move in that direction. You do not necessarily need to analyse every detail of the past in order to make useful changes in the present.

Rewind Therapy for Trauma

Rewind is one of the techniques I may use when working with traumatic memories and PTSD symptoms. One of its advantages is that a person does not need to describe the traumatic event to me in detail.

People think, process, communicate and experience therapy differently. I am happy to adapt how we work together.

You might need more time to process a question, prefer clear and direct language, find eye contact uncomfortable, need breaks, struggle with fatigue, or simply find some traditional ideas about what therapy “should” look like unhelpful.

We can work out together what makes sessions most useful for you.
